Corona Chronicles - Living in Ghana During COVID-19

Currently there are less than 30 cases of coronavirus reported in Ghana. The Government in Ghana has taken swift action to minimise the spread of coronavirus here which is so important due to the lack of sufficient health services available. Given the lack of real information available about the virus and its impact, we have decided to remain in self isolation to protect our family. We have a number of strategies in place to try to keep our sanity and we share those here! We are doing our best to work from home, but obviously its a challenge. Here is our update on life in Ghana during Coronavirus times.

Life in Ghana is very different to Australia and as can be expected, it's been quite an adjustment for the whole family. It's actually been pretty crazy when we look back over the past months and what we have achieved. From finding a new home, dealing with scrupulous landlords, selecting a school for the kids that would be the right fit, feeling like a L plate driver learning to drive for the first time on these crazy lawless roads and learning to live with inefficient services we consider basic like garbage collection, power and water services - but it's not all been stress and chaos, we've already made great friendships, amazing new connections and have been enjoying quality time with family, learning to slow down and take the time to appreciate the small things...

We finally made it to Ghana after an epic 27 hour flight! The kids were (surprisingly) great on the flight. They just loved the unrestricted movie time and my lil bub was happy to snuggle into Mama for the most part. It's been a funny experience leading up to this point with lots of mixed reactions from family, friends and random strangers who hear about our big move to Ghana. It's sad that most commonly we get asked if it is safe - like I'd be taking my kids to a country that isn't safe?! - as strange as the question is, its not overly surprising given how negative Africa is portrayed in our media. Our first week in Ghana has been anything but negative <3

Announcement: Adinkra Designs HQ is moving!

Our family is about to embark on our biggest journey yet. In November, we will be relocating to Accra, Ghana. The girls still have very vivid memories of our last trip to Ghana and they’re very excited to call Ghana home. Kingston has never been, and while I am definitely not looking forward to the plane ride over with a 12 month old, it’s a short pain for long-term gain. I can’t wait to watch him chasing chickens, growing up knowing nothing but outdoor play in nature and simple living. This is such a gift we can give to our children and I can’t wait to hit re-set on our life and let this new journey begin.
